HORNETS NEVER SAY DIE

HORNETS NEVER SAY DIE: At their worst FC trailed Irvine Valley College 6-1, but they chipped away pulling off another walk-off 8-7 home win in the bottom of the ninth.

Down 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Hornets grabbed a run on a single to left by 1B Garrett Donohoe scoring SS Jose Rojas. In the fifth, FC scored another run when 3B Erik Lewis hit a shot down the left field line scoring 2B Nick Gotta. In the sixth, Fullerton kept chipping away scoring two runs on a single from RF Uriel Salinas scoring LF Thomas Castro and CF Ryan Joyce crossed the plate with bases loaded when Lewis was hit by a pitch.

The Lasers tried to separrate themselves by adding a run in the eighth, but FC came crawling back in the ninth inning.

With IVC up 7-5, the catcher Paul Frias dropped one into center field scoring pinch runner Alan Willes. Gotta took a two-out walk bringing in pinch runner Kodi Diamond for the tying run. Tied at 7 a piece, Salinas broke the game open with a walk-off hit to left field bringing in pinch hitter Oliver Jackson for the Hornet win.

DH/Pitcher Troy Mulcahey started the game putting in an inning of work with 3 hits and 3 earned runs. Juan Berumen came in for the second inning and tossed 2.1 innings with 5 hits and 3 earned runs. Ryan Romero threw 3.2 with 3 hits and 0 runs against. Jacob Miller (4-0) tossed the final two innings of the game with 3 hits and 1 earned run to earn his fourth win on the season.

Up Next: The Hornets (20-7, 10-2) will wrap up the 3-game OEC series (1-1) this Saturday, April 6th. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 pm.
