THE HORNETS ARE THE ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!

THE HORNETS ARE THE ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS! It's been 30 years since their last conference championship (1983 in the South Coast Conference) and the Fullerton College baseball team finally got one on Saturday afternoon beating Cypress College 12-6 on the road to lock it up.

Fullerton scored six runs in the first two innings, but the Chargers came rushing back to score 1 in the second, 3 in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth to tie the game up at 6 a piece. Hornet RF Ryan Joyce broke the game open in the seventh on a 3-run triple. FC scored 5 runs total in the inning. In the eighth, Fullerton put the final nail in the coffin on a single by 1B Garrett Donohoe scoring 3B Erik Lewis.

Starting FC pitcher Jeff Curran (6-2) took the no-decision going 5 innings with 9 hits against, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. RP Sean Michel (5-0) threw a solid game for the win going 4 innings allowing only 3 hits against.

Side Note: DH Troy Mulcahey had 4 hits with 3 RBI on a double, homerun, and two singles. Lewis was 5-5 at the plate scoring 3 runs. SS Jose Rojas had 3 hits with 2 runs and 1 RBI. Joyce had 2 hits (double and triple) and CF Dakota Wix 2 hits. Singles were had by Cather Paul Frias and Donohoe.

Up Next: The Hornets (24-10, 14-5) will host Golden West College on Tuesday, April 23rd. Game time is at 2:00 pm. GO HORNETS!
