BASEBALL: FC GETS ONE ON THE GAUCHOS

BASEBALL: FC GETS ONE ON THE GAUCHOS

On the road Friday night, Fullerton closed the series against Orange Empire Conference competitor Saddleback College with a win 5-3.

In two previous games in the series, FC had their chances to win, however they were not able to close them out.

Fullerton changed the outcome in the third and final game of the series Friday with a solid victory against the top team in the state. The Hornet win not only proved that they can beat one of the best teams around, but it also created a three-way tie for first place in the Orange Empire Conference. Saddleback, Orange Coast, and Fullerton now sit at 6-3 in the OEC.

The Gauchos and Hornets were in a stalemate until the 5th inning, until Jesse Hayes changed the game by scoring off a throwing error by the Gaucho pitcher. Teammates Ryan Stephens, Ivan Ramos, and Monte Montenegro would follow scoring runs for Fullerton. In the 8th inning, Chase Kerr scored via Jake Anderson's double to center field.

Sean Henry started for the Hornets throwing 4.1 innings with 4 strikeouts. Reliever Gerardo Ramirez followed up with 2.2 innings with 5 strikeouts and only 1 walk earning him the win. Kevin Foley (2 saves) closed the game out for his second save on the season. He had 2 strikeouts.

Up Next: The Hornets (13-11 overall 6-3 OEC) will play at Compton College on Tuesday, March 27th at 1:00 pm. On Wednesday, March 28th Fullerton will travel to San Diego Mesa for a non-conference game. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm. On Thursday, March 29th FC will complete the week by hosting Moorpark at 2:30 pm.
