BASEBALL: HORNETS TAKE SERIES FROM CYPRESS

In the final regular season game of 2018, Fullerton played host to Cypress College on Thursday afternoon and beat the Chargers 8-6.

The Hornets competed the season-series against the Chargers winning two out of three games. FC ends the regular season with an overall record of 19-21 and an Orange Empire Conference record of 10-11. Cypress finishes with an overall record of 25-15 and an OEC record of 10-11.

Cypress drew first blood in the first inning when Jesse Lopez grounded out to second base giving Arron Simpson the chance to cross home plate on the throw to first.

Fullerton broke the game open in the fifth inning scoring an incredible 7 runs. With bases loaded Monte Montenegro hit a single to center scoring Thomas Delgadillo. Ryan Aguirre singled and took another base on an error by the right fielder. Angel Lopez and Ryan Stephen were able to score. Jesse Hayes came up and singled to center scoring Montenegro. Delgadillo hit one deep for a triple to right field allowing Chase Kerr, Hayes, and Anderson the chance to come home.

The Chargers got three runs back in the sixth. A double to left was hit by Lopez scoring Simpson, and a single to center field by Jack Gardener scored Dominic Campeau. By the end of the inning Fullerton held a 7-4 lead.

Anderson came up in the bottom of the seventh and crushed a solo homer over the left field ivy.

Cypress put a scare into the Hornets with two outs in the eighth when Elias Ledesma hit a hard single up the middle scoring two, Campeau and Simpson, closing the gap at 8-6, but FC held strong for the win with solid pitching.

Fullerton starting pitcher Sean Henry (5-3) locked down the win going 5.1 innings with 3 earned runs against, with 2 walks, and 2 K's. Tuesday's starter Connor Tousignant came in for some more work tossing 2.1 innings with 2 K's. Ricky Rivera came in to close the game out working 1.1 innings for his first save of the season.
