BASEBALL: SOGGY LOSS

Fullerton took a home-loss on Friday afternoon losing to Southwestern College 5-1 in a non-conference game.

The Hornets played the game at historical Amerige Field due to soggy field conditions on Hornet Field from the heavy rains this past week. Amerige Field has been around since 1917 and has seen baseball legends Walter Johnson, Satchel Paige, and Joe Dimaggio toss the ball around its diamond.

The first three innings flew by as both teams struggled to generate any runs due to strong pitching.

In the top third, Southwestern got on the board when Ricky Yoquigia slapped the ball to the right field line just staying fair. Reyes Murillo came home from second base.

FC got into the mix in the top of four scoring a run to tie it up. With bases loaded, Monte Montenegro was hit by a pitch forcing Ryan Stephens home.

The Jaguars went back up 2-1 in the top of the fifth when Brando Ridgels hit into a fielder's choice giving Elijah Burns a chance to score by diving under the tag at home.

Southwestern added two more runs in the sixth on a home run that went over the left field fence by Bryan Reyes that also brought in Gavin Mestas.

In the top of the ninth, the Jags put one more run on the board when Mestas singled in Jorge Martinez.

Taed Heydinger got the start on the mound for FC going 5 innings with 2 earned runs, 6 hits against, and 6 strikeouts. Reliever David Olson came in to toss 3.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs, 2 hits, and had 4 strikeouts. Jacob Baca got the final out allowing 1 hit against.

Up Next: The Hornets (2-3 overall) will travel south to Palomar College on Saturday, February 9th for a double header with the Comets. Game one will be at 10:00 am and game two will begin at 1:00 pm.
