BASEBALL: PIRATES SAIL PAST HORNETS

Fullerton (6-15 overall) and Orange Coast (19-4-1 overall) met up at Hornet Field for an Orange Empire Conference match-up with the Hornets losing game one of the three-game series 9-4.

FC went up 1-0 in the second inning on a single to right field by Adrian Gutierrez that brought home Ryan Stephens from second base.

In the top of the third, the Pirates tied the game up on a SAC fly by Davis Delorefice that allowed Tommy Williams to tag up and cross home plate.

OCC broke the game open in the top of the seventh ripping off 4 runs to go up 5-1. With the bases loaded, Williams hit into a fielder's choice giving Joey Fregosi the chance to score. Delorefice ripped a hard single up to center field scoring Williams and Adam Serrano. Murphy Stehly knocked in Tyler Lasch on a hit up the middle for the final run of the inning.

Down 9-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Fullerton's offense showed some life when Ryan Penalber cranked a shot over the left field ivy bringing in 3 runs. Unfortunately, that was all FC could muster up as OCC ran away with the win.

Despite taking the loss, FC starter Patrick Showalter (3-4) tossed a solid game going 7 innings with 4 earned runs against on 7 hits.

Up Next: Fullerton (6-15 overall, 1-6 OEC) will play game two of the series at Orange Coast College on Thursday, March 21st. Game time is at 2:00 pm.
