BASEBALL: HORNETS FALL TO DONS

The Hornets hosted Santa Ana College on Tuesday afternoon and lost a tough one 8-3.

Both teams came into the game at opposite ends of the standings with Santa Ana sporting a 3-1 overall record after taking care of Golden West in last week's four game series, while Fullerton came in with a 1-3 overall record after their series with Orange Coast. Today's Hornet loss at the hands of Santa Ana now gives them an overall record of 1-4 with an Orange Empire Conference record of 1-3.

The Hornets scored the inaugural run in the bottom of the third on a shot that got through the right side by Jacob McClure. Ryan Lamastra came in to score from second.

The Dons took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a three-run homer by the leadoff batter Micah Pietila-Wiggs that brought in Garet Crenshaw and Derek Sims.

Santa Ana added to their lead in the sixth dropping two more runs. Devon Villanueva knocked a single deep to left field scoring Griffin Selby and Luke Davis scored.

SAC went up 6-1 in the seventh when Selby hit one to shallow left that dropped in scoring Nick Lopez.

Fullerton cut the Don's lead in half in the bottom of the seventh on two hard rips up the middle by Carter Kay scoring Sawyer Chesley and Matt Darr plating Kay.

The Dons put the finishing touches on the game in the ninth on a two-run homer that sailed over the left field ivy by Villanueva that also brought Davis home.
