FOOTBALL: HORNETS BREAK RECORDS IN VICTORY OVER BAKERSFIELD

Fullerton's season home opener went off in grand fashion as the Hornets knocked off Bakersfield College 45-23 at Shapell Stadium Saturday night.

FC's offensive line blew open holes allowing the Hornets to run wild on the Renegades. As a team, Fullerton rushed for a record 541 yards.  The previous mark was set in 1950 against Vallejo College at 509 yards.  RB Ryan Byrd took advantage of the running lanes setting the Hornet's individual record with 273 net yards, which broke the previous record set by Mike Charles (260 net yards) against Cerritos College in 1976.  Lavorrie Johnson also had an impressive outing rushing for 201 yards while scoring 3 touchdowns.

"It's an Offensive Line Coach's dream to have a night like tonight", Offensive Line Coach Trevor Watters.

The Hornets also broke the team total offensive yards in a game with 623.  The previous record was set in 1950 against Vallejo with 616 total yards.

After going up 10-0 in the first quarter, Fullerton controlled the game outright holding onto the ball 34:46 to Bakersfield's 25:14.

On defense, FC held the Renegades to 309 total yards as linebackers Simon Poti (9 tackles) and Jordan Kessen (8 tackles) made plays all over the field.
