2013 CCCAA FOOTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP - PREVIEW
BATTLE OF THE UNDEFEATED

The Southern California champion Fullerton College Hornets (12-0) will travel north to Oroville to face off against the Northern California champ Butte College (11-0).  With Fullerton's football program beginning in 1916 and Butte's first season in 1968, both programs have rich histories loaded with tradition. On Saturday, December 14th the two champions will meet for the first time ever at John Cowan Stadium at high noon.

The Butte College Roadrunners have been quite impressive this season going 11-0 overall and are currently riding a 15-game win streak dating back to October of 2012.  Winning their last game, a 47-18 rout over #4 in NorCal San Francisco City College, the Roadrunners took the NorCal Championship and will play in the State Championship game for the second time in five years.  In 2008, Butte laid claim to their first state title with a 17-9 win over Mt. San Antonio College.  Going 5-0 in conference-play, Butte won the Northern California conference out-scoring their rivals 260-45.

Stacked with talented players, the Roadrunner's will feature freshman quarterback Thomas Stuart (6-0, 185, Calvert Hall, Baltimore, MD) who was selected as the Northern California Conference "Offensive Player of the Year".  1st team All-Conference running back Kendall Williams (6-1, 210, N. Little Rock, New Orleans, LA) will also be one to watch along with 1st team tight end Bo Brummel (6-3, 245, Arlington, WA).

Fullerton College is a team on a mission in 2013 going 12-0 overall and is in the midst of a 17-game win streak that goes back to October of 2012.  In their last game, the Hornets knocked off #2 in SoCal Riverside City College 23-14 to win the SCFA Championship. Finishing 10-0 in the regular season, Fullerton is ranked #1 in Southern California.  Unbeaten (6-0) in conference-play, the Hornets are the National Southern Conference Champions for the second consecutive year.  The last time Fullerton won the state title was thirty years ago in 1983. The Hornets have won three state titles (1965, 1967, 1983).

Featured weapons for the Hornets will be SCFA Southern Conference "Offensive Player of the Year" sophomore quarterback Jose Escobar (6-1, 200, John Glenn, Norwalk, CA), 1st team All-Conference running back Ryan Byrd (5-10, 195, Lakeside, Lake Elsinore, CA), and 1st team wide receiver Eli Pleasant (6-1, 185, John F. Kennedy, La Palma, CA).

The winner of the CCCAA State Championship game will have at least a share of the national title.
