FOOTBALL: HORNETS RIP THE FALCONS

FOOTBALL: HORNETS RIP THE FALCONS

Ranked #1 in the state heading into this week's game against Cerritos College, the Hornets did not let their fans down as they won big 45-9 over the Falcons at Yorba Linda's Nathan Shapell Stadium Saturday afternoon.

FC quarterback Kane Wilson played his freshman season at Cerritos in 2011, and after spending some time off from football has looked sharp for Fullerton in the first two games. It was fitting that he scored the game's first touchdown against his former team. Wilson led a 9 play 78-yard drive where he capped it off with a 2 yard run to the wide side of the endzone (8:44 1Q).

The Falcons answered back with a nice long drive of their own (8 plays, 62 yards) ending with a 1-yard run by Vincent Brown (PAT failed).

With Fullerton holding a one point lead in the waning minutes of the first quarter, QB Ladarius Skelton led a long drive of his own (10 plays, 64 yards) scoring a keeper from the 3-yardline.

At the start of the second quarter, the Hornets struck again from the Cerritos 27 when Skelton completed a pass to Robert Johnson on the Falcon 40-yardline. Johnson then spun away from a defender breaking free using his speed to reach the end zone for a 73-yard strike. From there, the Cerritos bubble had burst, and the route was on as the Hornets went on to score 21 unanswered points.

Cerritos managed a fourth quarter field goal by Humberto Avila (28 yards), but it did nothing to stop the inevitable win for Fullerton.

Defense also played a big factor for FC as they held the Falcons to 165 yards of total offense (38 yards rushing and 127 passing). The Hornets collected 3 fumbles and had 5 sacks on the day. Kameron Powell led the way with 6 tackles and JeMycheal Moore chipped in with 1.5 sacks for a 10-yard loss.

FC Wideout Markus Grossman had a great day catching 10 passes for 85 yards. The current receptions record in a game sits at 15 set by Marquis Avery back in 2007 against College of the Canyons.

Up Next: The #1 Hornets (2-0 overall) will hit the road on Saturday, September 16th when they travel to College of the Canyons for another non-conference match up. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm.
