FOOTBALL: #1 HORNETS BREAK TD RECORDS

The high-flying Hornets had a record-breaking day on the road Saturday afternoon taking it Grossmont College 78-9 to open conference-play.

Coming off the bye, the well-rested FC football team did not show any signs of rust as the offense broke the school record for largest victory in a game (69 points), broke the record for most points in a half (50), broke the record for most points in a quarter (36 points), tying for most touchdowns in a half (7), and tying the record for most touchdowns in a game (11).

The ground game was unstoppable as five Fullerton players scored touchdowns while racking up 420 total rushing yards. Gerald Hulett led the way ripping off 95 yards on 8 carries for 3 touchdowns. Isaiah Webb did some damage carrying the ball 7 times for 54 yards with 2 touchdowns. Chase Steward had 8 carries for 73 yards with a TD, and Johnny Carmack ran the ball 4 times for 63 yards. QB Ladarius Skelton had 5 carries for 58 yards with a TD, and Joshua Jeffery had 2 carries for 52 yards and a TD.

On the fourth play of the game Fullerton QB Kane Wilson was sacked and the ball popped out with the Griffins recovering the ball on their own 44 yardline. From there, Grossmont went 45 yards in 11 plays and ended the drive with a successful field goal by Nels Haltom.

Down 3-0, the Hornet offense sputtered again on their second drive. With 4:06 left in the first quarter, FC went for it on fourth and two on a run by Isaiah Webb who was stymied losing a yard on the play.

The Hornet defense enforced a quick three and out on the next Grossmont drive and Justin Manyweather dazzled taking the punt back 35 yards giving FC decent field position on the Griffin 31-yardline.

On the third play of the drive, Webb took the handoff from Skelton, this time he made sure he would not be caught behind the line as he danced his way to the end zone for a 33-yard score.

After another Grossmont three and out, Fullerton got the ball with just over a minute left in the first quarter and struck gold on a 3-yard run by Skelton as the final second of the first quarter ticked off.

The second quarter was even better for the Hornets as they took over the game scoring five unanswered touchdowns and the rout was on.

The FC defense allowed the Griffin's their only touchdown in the fourth quarter (13:21) on a 4-yard run by Jerome Johnson III. They held Grossmont to a total of 33 yards rushing and 177 passing. David Farmer led the way with 6 tackles and broke up a pass. Rudy Navarro and Peter Kazibwe both had 5 tackles.

Up Next: The Hornets (6-0 overall, and 1-0 conference) will host Saddleback College on Saturday, October 21st in what will be a big conference match-up against two of the state's powerhouse teams. It is Fullerton College's Homecoming game and the 1967 National Champion Hornet team will be honored celebrating the 50th anniversary. Come on out and support your Hornets!
