FOOTBALL: HORNETS SNAG TOP CONFERENCE HONORS
The SCFA champion Hornets had an abundance of players selected to the All-Southern Conference team, including a sweep of the MVP awards.
Hornet quarterbacks Ladarius Skelton and Kane Wilson once again teamed up sharing the Offensive Most Valuable Player Award. Skelton has passed for 992 yards with 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He led the team in rushing with 1,112 yards on 132 carries for 19 touchdowns. Wilson has thrown for 1,570 yards with 15 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Wilson also ran for 289 yards on 43 carries with 4 touchdowns.
Fullerton's Montre Bonner was selected as the Defensive MVP. A defensive lineman, Bonner terrorized quarterbacks all season leading the conference with 12 sacks (tied 4th in state). He also has 32 tackles and 3 fumble recoveries.
Head Coach Tim Byrnes was named the 2017 SCFA Southern Conference Coach of the Year. This is Coach Byrnes' seventh conference COY honor in his tenth season as the Hornet's head coach.
In all, 20 Hornets were honored, including Coach Byrnes.
