FOOTBALL: HUNTING DOWN A THREE-PEAT

FOOTBALL: HUNTING DOWN A THREE-PEAT

The Hornets have been tabbed by the JC Athletic Bureau as the number one team in the golden state as voted on by the California Community College football coaches.

Picked unanimously in this year's state pre-season poll, the Hornets are ready to make a run at a three-peat after defeating last seasons Northern California Champion San Mateo College 16-12 in a nail-biter at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento.

During Tim Byrnes' tenure as the Hornet head coach, Fullerton has an impressive record of 90-27 spanning 10 years. Byrnes currently is the college's all-time leader in winning percentage (.769) just edging past legendary coach Hal Sherbeck (.768).

Although they are once again stacked with talent on both sides of the ball, FC will have to take each week of their schedule seriously as 7 out of their 10 opponents are ranked in the top 25 in #23 Golden West (week 1), #4 Riverside (week 2), #19 Southwestern (wwek4) #5 Ventura (week 5), #22 San Diego Mesa (week 8), #16 El Camino College (week 9), and #10 Mt. San Antonio (week 10).

In the national preseason polls, Fullerton College ranked #2 behind East Mississippi (Football America Juco) and is ranked #9th behind San Mateo (Street & Smith's Juco).

Up Next: The Hornets will be scrimmaging against themselves this Thursday, as no team was willing to hit the field against them. Fullerton will then open the 2018 season on the road at #23 Golden West College on Saturday, September 1st. Kickoff is at 1:00 pm.
