FOOTBALL: ANOTHER HORNET HEART-BREAKER IN OT

FOOTBALL: ANOTHER HORNET HEART-BREAKER IN OT

The No. 18 Hornets had a tough opponent to face Saturday night traveling up the 101 Freeway to No. 5 Ventura College, and fell to the Pirates 48-47 in an overtime loss.

For the second week in a row, the FC footballers had their hearts pulled out from their chests against a ranked team. Last weekend, suffered a double overtime loss to No. 12 Southwestern College 33-30.

Given it was a tall order to fill against last season's SCFA Champions,  the Hornets fought hard to get back into the game coming back from a 21-point deficit midway through the third quarter.

Sophomore receiver Hunter Rison made his FC debut and did not disappoint scoring 2 touchdowns (7 catches for 141 yards) giving the FC offense a potent booster shot. Quarterback Quinn Commans threw for 262 yards, 3 TDs, and had 2 interceptions to lead the comeback. He led the team in rushing with 6 carries for 61 yards. Wideout Tim Allen also had a big night with 7 catches for 101 yards.

Tied 41-41 in overtime, Ventura got the ball first on the Fullerton 25-yardline scoring a touchdown and then converting the point after to go up 48-41.

The Hornets did not waste any time matching the VC touchdown on a 9-yard strike from Commans to Kashan Griffin. The point after snap was too high for the holder, and the kick sailed outside of the goal posts giving Ventura the non-conference win.

The Pirates and Hornets have met a grand total of 9 times in their overall history that dates back to 1925. After tonight's loss, the series now stands at 5-4 with Ventura leading.

Up Next: Fullerton (2-3 overall) has a bye next Saturday, October 12th but will be back in action at No. 10 Cerritos College on Saturday, October 19th when they take on the Falcons at 6:00 pm.
