FOOTBALL: MAKING BIG MOVES IN MESA

FOOTBALL: MAKING BIG MOVES IN MESA

The Hornet football squad took a trip down to San Diego Mesa College on Saturday night and rolled past the Olympians 71-14 in what was supposed to be a Central Conference showdown.

The FC scoring record was nearly broken tonight putting up 50 in the first half and scoring 71 total points. In 2018, Fullerton beat Santa Ana 85-0, in 2017 they beat Grossmont 78-9, and in 2016 the Hornets knocked off Grossmont 79-18. Most points in a half go to the 2018 squad, which were 64 against Santa Ana. In 2017, 50-first-half points were put up on the board against Grossmont. Winning by a margin of 57 points puts this game at No. 6 on the "largest margin of victory" list in the FC record book.

It was a great win for Fullerton as they are still in the race for the conference title. Cerritos (1-2) fell to Mount San Antonio College (3-0) tonight 42-24. Now El Camino (2-1) and the Hornets trail the Mounties by a game. Fullerton is in control of its own fate as their last two opponents are the Warriors and Mounties.

The Hornets came out firing in the first quarter grabbing a 29-0 lead scoring 4 times within a 6 minute span.

On the first play of the second quarter, Fullerton hit paydirt yet again on a 25-yard strike from Quinn Commans to Kailan Noseff. FC had an astounding 36-0 lead stunning the Olympians on their home field. By halftime, FC had pinned 50 unanswered points on Mesa.

At the start of the second half, FC's Kashan Griffin yet again stunned the crowd with a dazzling 89 yard kick return for a touchdown. It was his 4th on the season breaking the school record set by Marnez Ogletree (3) in 2014 and Keyon Lee (3) in 2011. Griffin now has 681 total return yards on 14 attempts with 2 games left on the season. The record is 732 set by Frankie Salazar in 1998.

The Olympians managed to late touchdowns with the game already out of reach. It was an excellent effort by the Hornet defense that never let up against an offensive unit that has scored 242 points in 7 games this season.

San Diego Mesa and Fullerton first fought it out on the gridiron back in 1968 with the Hornets pulling off a 46-0 victory. After tonight's win, FC now holds a 22-4 advantage in the all-time series.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-4 overall, 2-1 conference) will host another conference game next Saturday, November 9th when they welcome El Camino College to Yorba Linda High. Kickoff will be at 1:00 pm.
