MEN'S BASKETBALL: A STEADY WIN FOR FC

The Hornets were successful in game one of their FC Classic Tournament Wednesday night beating San Diego Mesa College 73-51.

The first minutes of the game had the Olympians and Hornets tied at 5-5, but a Kendall Lauderdale dunk got things going for Fullerton at the 15:45 mark. FC took an 11-5 lead on a layup by Nick Anderson (15:03) and the Hornets never looked back.  

By halftime the Hornets held a healthy 32-23 lead, and by the end of the second half FC had their largest lead of 32 over Mesa.

The Hornets scored 25 points off of turnovers and to Mesa's 9. FC also outscored the Olympians in the paint 40-22.

Kendall Lauderdale had a game-high 12 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists for Fullerton. Kenny Barnes put up 11 points and brought down 4 rebounds. Jesse Ghee and Dezmond Rowen followed up with 8 points each. Mitch Vines, Dillon Reise and Rodney "Rocket" Henderson all scored 7 points each.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-0 overall) will play Citrus College (3-1) this Friday, November 11th at 7:00 pm in the semi-final game. Citrus had beaten Bakersfield College in overtime 81-79 advancing the Owls to Friday's game. Watch the Hornet game live here.

There are four teams playing in the eight-team tournament that are ranked in the top 20 of the latest pre-season poll put out by the California Community Colleges Men's Basketball Coaches Association. Chaffey comes into the tournament ranked #4, Fullerton #9, Mt. San Jacinto #18, and Citrus at #20. Rounding the rest are some very talented teams in Bakersfield College, Cypress College, San Diego City College, and San Diego Mesa College. Cypress placed 2nd in the Orange Empire Conference last season, and San Diego Mesa is ranked #14 in Southern California.
