MEN'S BASKETBALL: TWO OUT OF THREE AT CITRUS

The FC men's basketball team had a busy weekend playing in the Citrus College Tournament winning two out of three games.

The Hornets opened up against East Los Angeles College last Friday and suffered their third loss of the season 59-53 against a strong Huskie team (7-2 overall). Fullerton's biggest lead of the game was at the start when they jumped ahead 4-0. Although ELAC took their largest lead of ten points (30-20) with just over two minutes left in the first half, the Hornets kept fighting back keeping the game relatively close throughout. The basketball just did not fall FC's way that night as they shot 35.3%. Jason Richardson led the Hornets with 16 points, had 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Rodrick McCobb had 10 points with 6 rebounds.

In game two against Cuesta College, the Hornets showed some firepower beating the Cougars 93-78. Fullerton was super cold out of the gate as Cuesta jumped all over them taking a 12-2 lead. Something got into the Hornets as they came firing back going on a 27-7 run to take a 29-19 lead with just over 9 minutes left in the first half. The Hornets never looked back as they locked down their sixth victory of the season.  Richardson had a big night scoring a team-high 19 points with 7 assists. McCobb scored 13 points, Ronne Readus had 12, and Khalil Stevenson put in 10 points.

In the third and final game, Fullerton had a rematch of last season's state quarter-final game against Cañada College. This game was all Hornets as they brought down the Colts 75-53. Maintaining a big lead throughout the game, FC walked away with a needed win against one of the stronger teams in the north. Once again, Richardson had a big night scoring a game-high 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Vaj Rice followed up with 17 points with 5 rebounds, and Stevenson dropped in 10 points with 4 rebounds.

Up Next: Fullerton (7-3 overall) will play in the Riverside City College Tournament this week beginning December 7-9. FC will be tested when they open the tournament against #1 in the state San Bernardino Valley College (10-0 overall) on Thursday, December 7th at 5:00 pm.
