MEN'S BASKETBALL: HORNETS CLIP CHARGERS

The Hornets competed the season-sweep over Cypress College Wednesday night getting past the Chargers 86-82.

Whenever these two district and OEC rivals get together it is always a close game, and Wednesday night at Cypress was no different. Fullerton may have swept Cypress this season, but it was no easy task. A few weeks ago the two teams met at Fullerton, and the Hornets just got past the Chargers 56-51.

Fullerton's win not only gives them district bragging rights, but it the team up in the OEC standings at 8-2 (19-6 overall). The Charger loss keeps them down in the OEC at 2-7 (8-16 overall).

FC jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first minutes of the game on a couple of free throws by Dezmond Rowen.

Justin Smith's three-pointer helped Cypress cut the lead down at 8-7, but the Hornets went on a 13-5 run to go up 21-12 at 8:36.

Fullerton maintained their distance through the remainder of the first half, and by halftime they led 40-34.

The second half saw the Hornets take their largest lead of 12 (74-62) on a layin by Khalil Stevenson with just over 7 minutes left in the game. With two minutes left in the game, the Chargers made a final push getting within three points (80-77) on a jumper by Mike Magee. FC thwarted their attempt with solid defense and decent shooting from the free throw line.

Jason Richardson had a game-high 24 points with 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Ronne Readus played strong scoring 15 points with 7 rebounds, and Khalil Stevenson dropped in 13 points. Akil Reese and Vaj Rice both chipped in with 7 points apiece.
