MEN’S BASKETBALL: HORNETS FLY OVER HAWKS

The No. 3 Fullerton College men's basketball team took on No. 16 Santiago Canyon College on the road Friday night proving to be the better team over the Hawks 88-65.

Heading into the game, there was a three-way tie for first place in the Orange Empire Conference that included Fullerton, Santiago Canyon, and Saddleback. The win keeps FC (6-1 OEC and 21-2 overall) in first place with No. 14 Saddleback, after they defeated Cypress 81-60. The Hawk loss kicks them down to second place with an OEC record of 4-2 and an overall record of 15-7.

It was supposed to be a showdown between two of the top teams in the conference, but Fullerton stole the show early taking an incredible 35-5 lead by the 6-minute mark. By the time both teams headed for their respective locker rooms at the end of the half, the Hornets held a commanding 51-22 lead.

The Hornets continued to dominate in the second half maintaining their 30-point lead as they went on to take the victory.

FC remained hot from beyond the arc shooting 64.7% (11-17) and hit 57.1% from the floor. The Hornets also owned the key out-rebounding the Hawks 40-30, and outscoring them in the paint 32-20.

Fresh off of a 40-point game, Lance Coleman II (12-16 shooting) continued his hot-streak scoring a game-high 30 points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Big man Ronne Readus scored 17 points with 19 rebounds for another double-double. Jailen Moore put up 16 points and Dylan Banks scored 7.

Up Next:  Fullerton (21-2 overall, 6-1 OEC) will come back home on Wednesday, February 6th when they welcome Irvine Valley College to the Hornets Nest. Tipoff is at 5:00 pm.
