MEN’S BASKETBALL: DEFLECTING LASERS

The No. 2 in state Hornets hosted Irvine Valley College in an Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday night burning the Lasers 71-32.

Tied with Saddleback for first place in the conference, Fullerton's OEC record now stands 7-1 with an overall record of 22-2. Irvine Valley, the only team to beat Saddleback in conference-play this season, has been swept by FC and is 2-6 in the OEC with an overall record of 5-19.

The Hornets took advantage of the Lasers early taking an 8-0 lead. By 10:07, they widened the gap to 14 points (20-6) that was capped off by a lay-in by Ronne Readus. With 8 seconds left in the half, Lance Coleman II nailed down a mid-range jumper that put FC up 34-15.

FC did not let up in the second half as they continued to pressure IVC going up 58-24 after Coleman dropped in a three-point shot (9:54). Fullerton took their biggest lead of 40 (71-31) with 23 seconds left on the clock after Anthony Resendez hit a three-pointer to seal the game.

The FC defense was in full-force holding the Lasers their lowest scoring total of the season at 32 points. Fullerton out-shot IVC 53.2% to 22%.

Lance Coleman II had another game-high for the Hornets scoring 20 points (90 total in the last 3 games). He also added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Ronne Readus powered in 12 points with 8 rebounds. Rodrick McCobb, Dylan Banks and Vaj Rice delivered 8 points each.
