MEN’S BASKETBALL: DEFENSE GETS IT DONE

In an inner- district and conference showdown Thursday night, the No. 2 in state Hornets swept past the Cypress College Chargers on the road 67-55.

FC completes the sweep over Cypress dialing their overall record in at 24-2 with an Orange Empire Conference record of 9-1.The Hornets are currently locked in a tie for first place with Saddleback College (9-1). The Cypress defeat bumps them to fifth place in the OEC with an OEC record of 6-5 (17-10 overall).

The first half of the game was tightly contested as both teams matched one another in buckets scored. Down 13-12 at 9 minutes, Fullerton began to work in some wiggle-room taking a 4-point lead by 6:26 (22-18). By halftime, the Hornets had gained a 31-25 advantage.

The Chargers would not go away quietly in the second half as they slugged their way back getting within 3 points (43-40) by the 12 minute mark. Cypress tied the game up 53-53 on a jumper by Mike Magee at 5:58. That was as close as the Chargers got. The Hornet defense smothered the Chargers holding them to a mere 2 points for the remainder of the game. 

Lance Coleman II was on point with a double-double scoring 26 points with 10 rebounds. Jailen Moore was 4 for 7 from downtown with 12 points, and Omajae Smith delivered 11 points with 3 assists. Ronne Readus and Dylan Banks both scored 7 points each. Readus added 8 rebounds and Banks 5 rebounds with 4 assists.

Up Next:  The Hornets (24-2 overall, 9-1 OEC) play at home this Wednesday, February 20th against Copper Mountain College (FC's lone loss in conference). Tipoff is at 5:00 pm. Come on out and support your Hornets for this one!
