MEN’S BASKETBALL: OUT-SHOOTING OLYMPIANS

The FC men's basketball team hosted San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday night and grounded the Olympians 89-61.

No. 5 Fullerton is now 2-0 on the young season, while San Diego Mesa rides at 0-2 overall. Orange Empire Conference rival No. 15 Saddleback had beaten the Olympians 78-62 to begin the season last Saturday.

It was a non-conference game that saw the Hornets take a large first-half lead, and they did not look back.

FC scored the first 5 points on a three-pointer by Omajae Smith and a layin by Jacob Eyman. Fullerton doubled lead at 12-6 on a jumper by Tawon Elston by 14:24.

The Olympians pushed back tying the game up at 22 a piece at the 8-minute mark on a three-point shot by Doup Chol.

With 3 minutes left in the half, FC took over going on a 12-2 run to take a 10 point advantage (34-24). By halftime, Fullerton shoved the lead to 41-24.

The Hornets dropped another 10 points in the first 5 minutes of the second half expanding their lead at 51-27.

San Diego Mesa did their best to keep pace with Fullerton, but the damage was done. With strong defense and scoring often, FC went on to maintain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Tawon Elston came off the bench to lead all scorers with 19 points. Both Omajae Smith and Jacob Eyman had solid games scoring 14 points.  Eyman added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and nearly had a triple-double with 7 blocks. Harrison Bonner contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and had 4 assists. Ronnie Stapp also scored 9 points with 6 boards and 3 steals.

Up Next: Fullerton (2-0 overall) will host Grossmont College for another non-conference game this coming Saturday, November 9th. Game time is at 5:00 pm.
