TAKING DOWN THE DONS

In an Orange Empire Conference matchup, the No. 1 in state FC men's basketball squad kept their winning ways going on Thursday night knocking off Santa Ana College 84-64. 

Ripping off its 6th straight win in the month of December, Fullerton took some time to get warmed up as scrappy Santa Ana kept things close in the first half. With the score tied 24-24 at 2:30, the Hornets got some breathing room after taking off on a 10-0 run by the end of the half owning a 34-24. Mike Ofoegbu scored the last three buckets dominating under the basket. 

Kobe Newton welcomed the second half with a deep three-pointer with the assist coming from Sean Newman Jr. Shaquil Bender soon followed with a three of his own (assist Jeremiah Davis) putting FC up 40-24. By the 15-minute mark, the Hornets hooked their largest lead of 23 (51-28) that was topped of by a layup by Newman. Fullerton maintained its commanding lead for the remainder of the game for its second OEC victory. 

FC's Kobe Newton was the game scoring leader dropping in 16 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Jeremiah Davis and Mike Ofoegbu both scored 13 points. Davis also added 6 boards. Sean Newman Jr. posted 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists. Shaquil Bender scored 11 points and dished out 4 assists. 

Up Next: The No. 1 Hornets (13-1 overall, 2-0 OEC) will get back at it next year when they host district rival Cypress College on Wednesday, January 4th. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm.
