No. 1 Fullerton College hosted No. 28 Riverside City on Wednesday night in the Hornets Nest for a conference battle and brought down the Tigers 83-58.
Last Friday, the Hornets took care of business down at Saddleback College beating the Bobcats 67-54. FC jumped out in the first half with a big 34-16 lead and did not let up in the second. Four Fullerton players scored in double-digits in Jeremiah Davis (15), Sean Newman Jr. (13), Kobe Newton (12), and RJ Banks (10).
Tonight's win over Riverside City bumps the Hornets to 19-1 overall and 8-0 in the Orange Empire Conference. The RCC loss lands the team at 11-8 overall and 4-3 in the OEC.
It was a fast-paced first half with both teams running the floor and hitting buckets. The Hornets held a narrow 18-15 lead by the eight-minute mark, the Fullerton offense took it to another level with a 19-8 run (37-23) that was finished off with a nice layup by Jeremiah Davis at 2:50. By the time halftime rolled around, FC held a strong 41-25 lead.
Fullerton controlled the rest of the game locking down its biggest lead of the game of 33 (68-35) by the ten-minute mark thanks to a three-point shot by Javon Jones.
As a team, the Hornets crushed it in the paint tonight out-rebounding Riverside City 40-24 and out-scoring them in the paint 38-20.
Leading the way for the Hornets in scoring was Javon Jones with a game-high 20 points (4 for 5 three-pointers). He also added 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Shaquil Bender scored 15 points, while Jeremiah Davis put up 13 with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Sean Newman Jr. dropped in 8 points with 4 assists and Mike Ofoegbu contributed 6 points with 6 boards and 2 blocks.
Up Next: The No. 1 Hornets (19-1, 8-0 OEC) will hit the road on Monday, January 23rd when they take on Golden West College at 5:00 pm. This will mark the start of a three-game road series next week for FC.
