MEN'S SOCCER: A NEW ERA HORNET OPENS WITH A VICTORY

The Hornets opened the 2016 season at home on Friday afternoon under new head coach Greg Aviles. FC did not disappoint as they locked down their first win over Glendale College in a 2-1 non-conference match-up.

Fullerton scored the game's first goal just before halftime (45:00) on a shot by Gerard Abessolo.

Glendale made their move in the second half on a cross shot that was kicked in at 74:00.

The rest of the second half remained scoreless with both teams anxiously battling hard for for an edge to win the season's first game. With less than 6 minutes left in the match, the Hornets took advantage of the Vaqueros scoring the winning goal on a place kick by Rene Santillan.

With little time left, Fullerton hung on for the win earning Coach Aviles his first win as the Hornet's head coach.

FC goalie Alexis Villanueva had 3 saves with no goals against in the first 45 minutes. Julian Ochoa played the last 45 minutes of the game with 1 save and 1 goal against. 

Up Next: Fullerton (1-0 overall) will travel to Southwestern College for another non-conference game this Monday, August 29th. Game time is at 3:30 pm.
