MEN'S SOCCER: SHUTOUT WIN OVER STANGS

The recent heat wave must have been a good thing for the Hornet offense as they sizzled with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Norco Mustangs on Tuesday.

It was a much-needed Orange Empire Conference win for Fullerton that broke up a three-game losing streak. Still in the hunt for an OEC title in what has become a tight race, the Hornets are only a couple of games out of first place with a record of 5-3-2. Sitting in first is Golden West at 7-2-1, and in second is Irvine Valley at 6-1-2. Santa Ana College sits in third with a record of 5-1-3, and Norco sits at the bottom in 8th at 1-10.

FC got it started in the first half going up 1-0 in the 25th minute when Cesar Ortega knocked one into the net off of a pass from Luis Dircio.

The second goal of the game did not come until the second half. Actually, it was one minute into the second (46:00). Tyler Grassi took a pass from Angel Ponce hitting a pretty shot from 25-yards out high into the left corner.

Ponce would not be outdone by his teammate scoring three minutes later (49:00) with the assist by way of Grassi.

Pablo Ros got in on the action in the 55th minute knocking in a goal off of a pass from Dircio.

The final goal of the game came in the 65th minute when Grassi hit his second goal from 15-yards out. The assist came from Omar Vega.

Fullerton goalie Fabian Caldera played very well in the box with 3 saves and no goals against.

Up Next: The Hornets (7-9-2 overall, 5-3-2 OEC) will play another conference game at Orange Coast College this Friday, October 27th at 3:00 pm.
