M. TRACK & FIELD: OEC CLUSTER MEET

Fullerton College Hornets had Orange Coast, Golden West and Santiago College over to their nest this week, to contest the 2nd conference meet of the early track season.

While OCC brought over a very impressive team, and seem to dominate most events, the Hornets were going to let their buzz be heard.

Decathlete Javier Weatherspoon, had two very solid performances in the Javelin and Discus throws, placing 3rd in both events.  In the other two throwing events, Demetrius Nelson-Robbins placed 5th in the shot put, followed closely by Weatherspoon, and Adrian Aguayo led a trio of Hornets (Jeff Pulcher, Juan Ocampo) with a 7th place finish in the Hammer Throw.

There were a couple of outstanding performances that helped Fullerton place high scoring some quality points.  Jonathan Baek continues to improve taking 2nd place in the 400 intermediate hurdles. Brandon Velasco ran a solid 3000 meter race placing 4th overall and Pablo Perez, in his first colligate track meet, came on strong the final 200 meters to place 3rd in the 800 meter race.

In the final race, the spectators were given a great show with the 4 x 400 meter relay. While OCC lead the whole race, there were a couple mistakes in the handoffs by both OCC and Fullerton, which made the race tighter and exciting, when the dust settled, OCC finished ahead of the hornets by a mere 3 seconds.

Fullerton College finished 2nd and ended up losing the team title to OCC, and coming out on top of Santiago College.

Up Next: The Orange Empire Conference Heptathlon and Decathlon Championships (Southern California Qualifier) on March 13-14 at Fullerton College.
