LASER BURN

LASER BURN

Despite taking the first set of the match, the FC men's volleyball team lost at home Wednesday night against a tough Irvine Valley College squad 3-1.

In the first set, FC came out like gangbusters grabbing an early 7-3 lead that was capped off by a great duo-block by Leonardo Mazuco and Damian Soriano. FC pushed its lead to 17-11 on a missed IVC kill attempt that sailed out of bounds. The Lasers did not fade away as they fought their way back to tie the game up 19-19, but the Hornets went on a 6-3 run winning it 25-23.

Irvine came back hammering in the second set taking an 18-12 advantage. From there, the Lasers walked away with the set 25-18.

The third set was close with IVC holding a 16-14 edge midway though, and the Hornets stayed in it tying the game up 20-20. IVC proved too much ripping off the next four out of five points to take it 25-21.

The fourth and final set belonged to Irvine Valley after forcing a 14-6 lead. Fullerton looked down and out early, but showed some fight getting within three at 24-21 before IVC closed the door taking the set and match 25-21.

Hunter Wong-Hin and Leonardo Mazuco both led the Hornets in kills with 14. Hunter had 8 digs and Leonardo contributed 12. Connor Stoebe had 9 kills with 7 digs, and David Perez led the tea in digs with 17. Benjamin Blanco delivered 42 assists.

Up Next: Fullerton (8-10 overall, 1-5 OEC) will host the final regular game of the season this Friday, April 8th when they welcome top-ranked Orange Coast College to the Hornets Nest.
