CROSS COUNTY: 2018 STATE FINALS

The 2018 Hornet Cross Country season ended with excellent performances at the CCCAA State Championship Meet.

On Friday, all of the coaches waited to hear here if the air quality due to the fires was going to allow the student-athletes to run their races. There were provisions in place to move the races up earlier on Saturday morning so they could run, and luckily the air quality was good enough to clear the runners.

Rebeca Perez and Raquel Aldama picked a good time to run their best races of the season finishing the 5K run at 48th place and 61st place. Perez crossed the finish line under the 20-minute mark at 19:54. Aldama ran tenaciously and crossed the line with a time of 20:12.

"I was very happy with their strong starts that paced them through the first mile setting the tone for the race", Hornet Head Coach Gina Bevec.

The race had a total of 164 runners and both Perez and Aldama accomplished their goals for the year.

On the men's side, Ian Rusk and Mauro Rosales stood at their starting line determined and focused to conquer the four-mile course as they got off to a good start.

"The first mile is always quick and everyone is working on finding their pace. They challenged themselves to work in the middle part of their race and never gave up", said Bevec.

Rusk and Rosales kept a strong pace running within three seconds of each other. Rusk crossed the finish line at 22:11 and was the 100th runner to finish out 168 competitors. Rosales finished at 22:14 and was the 103rd runner.

It was a great season full of many accomplishments!
