HORNET RUNNING SEASON IS OPEN
After a good summer training foundation, the Hornet Cross Country team finally opened the season.
This year the men bring back four sophomores to blend with a freshman class of six runners.
The women's team is composed of young first-year students that have a great background in running from their previous high school teams.
The season opener was at the Mark Covert Classic ran at Carbon Canyon Regional Park last Saturday September 3rd. It was a good first race for the Hornets with the men running an 8K and the women a 5K course amongst the grass and dirt trails in Brea. The runners competed amongst other community college/university/club programs at this meet.
The men show promise of a formidable team and that their summer training had paid off.

The women ran in higher temperatures and felt good getting the first race jitters off their back.

Our second race was the Vanguard University Invite which was held at Irvine Regional Park in Orange on Friday. The training this past week had to be altered with the extreme temperatures. However, the early morning race brought lower degrees with a tolerable racing atmosphere.
The men's team came in 8th place amongst the other university/college teams to run another 8K race.
Men's Finishes: Langley Turrietta 30:26, Cyrus Burton 30:28, Steven Castro 31:38, Orion Chavatipon 31:48, and Edgar Gutierrez 25:15.

"I felt better in this race and did things differently from my pre-race preparation," said Bond.
Up Next: Friday, September 16, 2022 - The Golden West Classic @ Central Park, Huntington Beach. The race time is at 9:00 am.
