SOFTBALL: WAKING THE SLEEPING GIANT

The softball Hornets did it again! They won their sixth straight game at home Wednesday afternoon, and this time they knocked off top-ranked OEC rival Santiago Canyon College 7-1.

The first time these two teams met back on March 3rd was not so pleasant for Fullerton (16-13, 6-6) as they were mercied at SCC 12-3. That was a different Hornet team.

The Hawks (18-7-1, 9-2) came out in the first inning scoring the game's first run. It would be their only run as FC pitcher Natasha Trujillo kept SCC off balance tossing a complete game allowing only 5 hits and no earned runs.

As a team, Fullerton had 9 hits on the day. CF Jill Saiza was 2-4 at the plate as was 1B Eryka Springer, who also drove in four runs. CF Mel Madrigal was 1-2 with a walk and crossed home plate three times.

It was a big win for the Hornets, who are now in the middle of a dogfight for a playoff spot. They are currently sitting in fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference standings behind Saddleback (7-4), Santiago Canyon (9-3), and Cypress (12-0).

Up Next: The Hornets will travel to Orange Coast College (3-9) for another OEC match-up this Friday, March 31st. Game time is at 2:00 pm.
