SOFTBALL: GAINING MOMENTUM

On Wednesday the Lady Hornets added to their recent winning streak defeating Orange Empire Conference competitor Orange Coast College 3-1.

Stuck in a 0-0- tie unti the fourth inning, Eryka Springer broke the game open hitting a homer to right field allowing two runs to score. OCC responded by getting one run from Danielle Votendahl, who double to center field. That was the only run Fullerton would allow Orange Coast.

In the top of the 6th Alexis Contreras added to the FC lead hitting a homer to left field. Fullerton's defense was stellar against the Pirates setting up a must see match against Cypress College.

Starting pitcher Natasha Trujillo (6-6) got the win for Fullerton tossing 5.1 innings with 1 earned run against and 4 strikeouts. Deana Gonzalez (1-1, 1 SV) locked down her first save of the season going 1.2 innings with no earned runs against and 1 strikeout.  

Cypress College is coming to Fullerton with a 62 consecutive win streak. The Hornets are hoping to end the streak this Friday. Both teams have played Saddleback College and won. However in the game against Saddleback, Cypress allowed 4 runs meanwhile Fullerton kept the score sheet clean versus the Gauchos. Another team both squads have defeated is Orange Coast College. The Chargers won 16-4 and the Hornets won 3-1. Fullerton College defense is ready for Cypress College explosive offense.

Up Next: The Hornets (7-9 overall, 2-4 Conference) will host district rival Cypress College on Friday, March 9 at 2 pm. On Saturday, March 10 Fullerton will play a round robin tournament versus Ventura College first at 2 pm and then against East Los Angeles College at 5 pm. Both games will be played at East Los Angeles College.
