SOFTBALL: HORNETS TOPPLE SANTIAGO CANYON

The FC softball squad is in the middle of an offensive renaissance beating the last three teams by a combined score of 20-3, including Monday's conference-win at Santiago Canyon College 12-3.

The win over the Hawks keeps Fullerton in the playoff race at 13-11 overall and 6-6 in the Orange Empire Conference. The Hawks (18-6 overall and 6-5 OEC) had beaten FC earlier in the season at Hornet Field by a score of 4-2. The two teams will meet for the third and final time during the regular season on Friday, April 20th at Fullerton.

Monday' s game began with a bang as Fullerton scored 3 runs in the top of the first. Elexa Rangel did some damage singling to right field scoring leadoff hitter Kaylee Williamson. Eryka Springer hit a deep sacrifice fly to left field that gave Sabrina Anguiano the chance to score. Alexis Contreras knocked a single to center field that brought Rangel home.

Santiago Canyon answered back with 2 runs the following at bat. Amber Elliot hit a single that got through the middle scoring Taylor Whitney. McKenna Boyle hit a SAC fly to center giving Amber Elliott the chance to cross home late.

The Hornets added 3 mores runs in the second and third innings keeping their distance from the Hawks at 6-2. Anguiano struck twice knocking in 3 RBI in those innings on singles to center and down the left line.

FC broke the game open in the fifth inning scoring 4 runs on the Hawks. SCC tried to climb back in it scoring a run in the following at bat, but that was all they could muster up offensively.

Fullerton dropped 2 more runs on SCC for good measure in the seventh when Nia Rodman hammered a double to right center field scoring Anguiano and Williamson.

FC' Natasha Trujillo (12-7) pitched an excellent game going 7 complete innings for the win with 5 hits against while only giving up 1 walk.

Up Next: The Hornets (13-11 overall, 6-6 OEC) will host Orange Coast College on Wednesday, March 28th for an early conference game at 11:00 am.
