SOFTBALL: THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

SOFTBALL: THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

The #15 seeded Hornet's ended their season over the weekend at No. 2 Mt. San Antonio College losing both games in the best of three series 6-3 and 7-4.

On Friday, FC took a hard hit in the first inning as the Mounties came out swinging with four runs. On their heels early, the Hornets fought back in the third inning scoring three runs.

Mt. SAC bottled up the Hornet offense preventing them from crossing home plate, and then went on to add two security runs of their own in the fourth and sixth innings.

In game two on Saturday, Fullerton came into the game feeling optimistic scoring the first run in the first inning, however the Mounties matched them in their next at-bat tying the game at one a piece. Mt. SAC gained the edge scoring three and a run in the second and third innings going up 5-1 over FC.

With some fight left in their hearts, FC scored a run on a hit by Kindy Favata scoring Bailee Giordono. Fullerton freshman Sabrina Anguiano came up to bat and crushed a two-run homer over left field in the sixth. When the dust settled, FC was back in the game at 5-4.

The Mounties finished the game and series off scoring two runs in the sixth to hold off the surging Hornets advancing them to the SoCal Super Regionals.

It was a productive season for Fullerton College's softball team. Throughout the year, Fullerton had its ups and down as any sport does, but they rose to the occasion beating some of the top teams in Southern California in Cypress, Santiago Canyon (twice), Riverside, Antelope Valley, and Ventura.

The Hornets started the season off slow, but then turned it around in March, as they were able to produce a five-game win streak. Some of those wins coming against ranked opponents. As the season progressed Fullerton produced an amazing eleven-game win streak in the month of April earning the team a spot in the SoCal Playoffs.

Overall, it was a great season for the Hornets making their fourth straight post-season appearance, and with a group of very talented players and recruits coming in to compete next season the future is bright.
