SOFTBALL: 14 HITS & A PERFECT GAME

In an Orange Empire Conference matchup, No. 9 Fullerton College welcomed Orange Coast College to Hornet Field on Wednesday enforcing a 10-0 mercy on the Pirates.

It was the third straight mercy for the Hornets as they compiled 14 hits. Starting pitcher Jessica Lopez locked down the team's first perfect game in over a decade.

The 2019 Basketball State Champion Hornets filled the stands and must have inspired the FC softballers to the tune of nine runs in the third inning.

With the bases loaded, Fullerton's Sarah Rengifo hit a hard single that got through the right side scoring Kaylee Williamson. Anabel Mendez singled to right field bringing in Lulu Vasquez scored and Khloe Lilavois scored from third on a passed ball. Desiree Guzman got in on the action hitting a single that went through the right side scoring Mendez and Rengifo. Veronica Garza got a base hit to deep center field bringing home Guzman and Jocelyn Alcala scored. Vasquez crushed a double in the to right center gap scoring Williamson and Garza.

FC scored another run in the fourth for good measure when Rengifo led off with a triple to left field. She soon came home on a passed ball.

Pitcher Jessica Lopez (12-2 overall) tossed a perfect game with no hits or walks in 5 innings. She added 7 strikeouts (3 looking) for the win.

Up Next: The Hornets (24-4 overall, 11-3 OEC) will hit the road this Friday, April 5th when they play another conference game at Riverside City College. The first pitch goes out at 2:00 pm.
