GREAT PITCHING PERFORMANCES BREAK EVEN

The Hornet softball squad hosted a three-way match with El Camino and LA Mission on Friday dropping one 3-0 and winning the other 1-0.

In the early game, FC took on a scrappy El Camino team in what was truly a pitching duel. With the scored stuck in neutral at 0-0, the Warriors broke through scoring two unearned runs. They went on to add one more in the seventh when Emily Esparza hit a solo homer over the left field fence. Unable to generate much offensively (6 total hits) the Hornets took the loss.

Starting pitcher Allyson Fuentes tossed a great game going 7 innings with 1 earned run, 4 hits against, 6 K's, no walks. She was an impressive 62 of 73 pitches for strikes.

The second game of the day had the Hornets winning it 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh. Both Fullerton and LA Mission fought it out to a 0-0 tie, until the seventh inning when Madison Gonzalez came in as a pinch hitter and knocked a pretty single to left field. Alyssa Garcia re-entered to run the bases and she ran them well. She stole second, was moved to third on a SAC bunt by pinch hitter Destiny Amezcua, and then came across for the winning run on a wild pitch.

Macy Brandl got the nod in the circle for Fullerton throwing an absolute gem. She went 7 innings, with no hits, runs, nor errors, and had 13 K's with only 3 walks.

In the third game of the day between El Camino and LA Mission, the Warriors beat the Eagles 6-4.

Up Next: The Hornets (1-2 overall) play at Cerritos College this Saturday, February 10th at 2:30 pm.
