WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: JUST OUT OF REACH

The Lady Hornets hosted OEC rival Santa Ana College on Wednesday night and fell 71-58.

The loss gives FC an overall record of 9-15 and a conference record of 1-7. The Don win boosts them to 13-11 overall and 3-5 in conference.

The first half of the game seemed to be all Hornets as they went on an early game tear taking an 8-0 lead on a Tianna Buford jumper by 7:49. By the end of the first quarter, the Dons chipped away at the score to make it 14-10.

Fullerton maintained their edge well into the second quarter with a 29-23 lead with three minutes left in the half. Santa Ana made a strong push going on a 8-2 run to tie the game up a 31 by halftime.

The Dons took the game over with four minutes left in the third quarter on a Karell Santos layup (39-37). The Hornets trailed for the rest of the game allowing Santa Ana to take their largest lead of 14 well into the fourth quarter.

Free throws and turnovers were the difference in the game. Santa Ana was 21 out of 28 (75%) from the line to FC's 11 for 13 attempts. The Hornets had 17 turnovers to the Dons' 13. Fullerton did out-work Santa Ana underneath out-rebounding their opponent 44-43.

Leading the way for Fullerton was Trisitan Johns with 12 points and 3 rebounds. Monica Hanna came up with another double-double scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Tianna Buford had 10 points with 9 rebounds and Kristen Sheriff contributed 9 points with 3 rebounds.

Up Next: The Hornets (9-15, 1-7) will play at home again this Friday, February 3rd against Irvine Valley College. Game time is at 7:00 pm.
