WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: NOT ENOUGH GAS

The Hornets didn't have enough in the tank to beat Riverside City College at home Friday night falling to the Tigers 67-54.

Sophomore players Monica Hanna, Nancy De La Cruz, and Tianna Buford were recognized before the game. Playing in their final home game in the Hornets Nest, coaches, family, and friends honored the trio of sophomores for their efforts this season.

In the first quarter, the Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead at 8:49, but FC followed up with four points from Melody Thomsen to tie it up. With 49 seconds left in the quarter FC took a 10-6 lead on a layup by Tianna Buford. RCC's Paradise Hatchett drove the lane flipping in a layup to tie the game at ten apiece.

The second quarter looked to be all Tigers as they went on a 13-4 run to go up 23-14 at 4:58. FC chipped away at the Tiger lead getting within two points (25-23) by halftime.

The second half was all Riverside as they went up ten (36-26) when Darria Hewett scored on a layup at 5:49 in the third.

The Tigers took their largest lead of fifteen (57-42) with just over six minutes left in the game. Behind by a fair amount, the Hornets did not have anything left to give as Riverside walked away with the win.

The loss lands Fullerton at 2-8 in the Orange Empire Conference and 10-6 overall, while the Tiger win now gives them a 5-5 OEC record and an 18-9 overall record.

Monica Hanna played her last game on the FC court and did not disappoint scoring a game-high 14 points with 13 rebounds. Melody Thomsen and Kristen Sheriff both dropped in 10 points and had 4 steals. Tristian Johns had 11 points with 6 rebounds.

Up Next: Fullerton (10-16, 2-8) will play at Orange Coast College on Tuesday, February 14th. Tip off against the Pirates will be at 5:00 pm.
