WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: DESERT CONSOLATION CHAMPS

The Hornets played exceptionally well at the College of the Desert tournament over the weekend winning two games out of three to take the consolation championship.

Losing the first game of the tournament against a strong Pasadena City College team 70-59 did not discourage Fullerton as they went on to fight back winning their next two games. Aliyah-Deen Ahmad led the team with 15 points and Melody Thomsen followed with 13 points.

In the second game on Friday, the Hornets brought out their best beating Victor Valley College 71-34. The game was rather close by the end of the first quarter with FC leading 11-9. By the 1:34 mark in the second quarter, Fullerton made its move grabbing a 28-15 lead on a shot by Ahmad. FC continued to add their lead throughout the game extending their lead by as much as 37 points by the end of the fourth quarter. Ahmad had a game-high 23 points while Kristen Sheriff contributed 15. Deziree McGee put up 11 points and Thomsen had 10 points.

In consolation championship game on Saturday, Fullerton took it to their host, College of the Desert, 74-49. The Hornets jumped all over the Roadrunners early going on a 13-2 run in the first six minutes. FC managed to maintain a large lead the remainder of the game earning their first consecutive victory of the season. Ahmad had another stellar game leading all scorers with 19 points and also brought down 7 rebounds. Sheriff and Lillian Ballestro both scored 11 points and Thomsen put up 10 points with 9 rebounds.

"It was a solid team effort. We had contributions from a number of players and were able to build on our consistency of offensive execution each quarter. If we commit to finishing plays on both ends of the floor, then we should be able to build upon the strides we made this weekend", Hornet Head Coach Marcia Foster.
