WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: FC FALLS SHORT

In the 2018 Orange Empire Conference opener, the Hornets lost a close road game Wednesday night at Santa Ana College 70-67.

The Hornets trailed early as Santa Ana took a 17-6 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Dons as they kept the FC offense in check while taking a 41-29 lead by halftime.

Santa Ana continued their dominance into the third quarter increasing their lead to 14 (45-31).

In the fourth quarter a funny thing happened. The Hornets woke from their slumber and began to play basketball. Down by a steep margin, Fullerton worked their way back into the game tying it up 55-55 with 6:08 left in regulation.

The rest of the game was a dogfight with Santa Ana gaining the edge. Fullerton won the battle on a number of fronts (bench points, fastbreak points, 2nd chance points, points off turnovers, rebounds, and free throw %), but they could not put the ball in the basket from the floor losing that battle 31.6% to 49.1%.

Lyneya Turner (10 rebounds) and Aliyah-Deen Ahmad (5 steals) both scored a team-high 14 points for the Hornets with Kristen Sheriff following up with 13 points. Melody Thomsen had another strong night under the basket with 8 points and 11 boards.

Up Next: Fullerton (4-9 overall, 0-1 OEC) will hit the road again for another conference matchup against at Irvine Valley College this Friday, January 5th. Game time is at 6:00 pm.
