In an Orange Empire Conference game, the FC women's basketball squad turned it on at home Friday night beating Santa Ana College 74-46.
The victory now forces a tie for fourth place with both teams sitting at 4-4 in the OEC standings. In their first meeting on January 3rd, the Hornets were edged on the road by the Dons 70-67.
The Dons opened the game with a 9-6 lead at 5:20 in the first quarter. It would be their only lead of the game as the Hornets ripped off an 8-0 run ending the quarter at 14-9.
FC came out hot in the second quarter taking a 29-16 lead at 4:22 on a layup by Deziree McGee. Melody Thomsen boosted the team with 14 points as Fullerton went to the locker room at halftime with a commanding 39-23 lead. Fullerton outshot the Dons 50% to 30% in the first half.
The second half belonged to the Hornets as they took their largest lead of 33 (69-38) with 3:39 minutes left in regulation.
Melody Thomsen gave her best scoring effort of the season with a game-high 27 points. She also had 15 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Aliyah-Deen Ahmad scored 12 points and Lyneya Turner put up 11. Tangikina Tauaika had 4 points and 10 boards.
