WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: CRUISING PAST COAST


The Hornets completed a season sweep of Orange Coast College Friday night beating the Pirates 77-61 in a conference game.

The win puts Fullerton (5-5) back in a tie for fourth place with Santa Ana College (5-5), while the loss keeps OCC down in the standings at 2-8.

The Pirates scored the first bucket of the night for their only lead. From there, the Hornets went on a 7-2 run to take the lead at 3:56. By the end of the first quarter, Fullerton had a 13-10 lead.

FC furthered their lead in the second quarter taking a 27-15 lead on a jumper by Melody Thomson. At halftime, the Hornets extended their lead at 34-18.

The second half was Fullerton's to lose, and they did not have a letdown. In fact, they enforced their largest lead of the game of 19 point at 3:41 in the third quarter.

The Hornets shot the ball well at 49.1% to OCC's 36.2%. They also out-scored the Pirates 22-14 off of turnovers.

Aliyah-Deen Ahmad had her best game of the season blowing up for 30 points with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Melody Thomsen scored 21 points and had 7 rebounds with 5 assists. Lyneya Turner put up 12 points with 6 rebounds.
