WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: THOMSEN TO BAKER U.!

Friends, family, and the Hornet staff gathered in the North Gym on Tuesday to celebrate sophomore guard Melody Thomsen's decision to sign with Baker University.

Regarded as one of the top-ranked universities in the state of Kansas, Thomsen will play basketball for the Wildcats this winter.

"I'm very happy with this new opportunity and challenge ahead. I have a lot of important people to thank for getting me to where I am to today, and if you are here [in the gym] that means you had a big role in where I'm going and where I've been", Melody Thomsen.

Thomsen, a two-year starter for the Hornets, won multiple awards. She was selected as the team's "Rock Award Player" for her consistency on and off the court, won the Athletic Department's Donna Cherry Inspiration award, was an All-Orange Empire Conference selection, and was selected as the Orange Empire Conference Character Champion (the conference's top honor for all sports).

This past season, Mel averaged 14.5 points a game, led the team with 9.5 rebounds, averaged 3.2 assists, and averaged 1.8 steals.

"You know how much of leader Mel was from day one. She took the entire freshman class and helped mold them into the sophomores they are today. I'm super proud and privileged that she's moving on and continuing her education at one of the top private schools- always a top contender in the NAIA", Hornet Head Coach Marcia Foster.

Congrats Mel! Once a Hornet, Always a Hornet!
