WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: FC STEPS IT UP

The Hornets locked down their first Orange Empire Conference win at home Wednesday night beating Santa Ana College 65-46.

The victory bumps the Hornet's overall record to 9-8 and gives them their first Orange Empire Conference win at 1-2. The loss for the Dons ratchets them down to a 5-11 overall record with 1-2 record in the OEC.

The first quarter was back and forth with both teams exchanging shots. With 2:11 left Santa Ana swung the lead their way (13-11) on a Sally Morris layup.

Fullerton took the lead back (15-13) at 9 minutes in the second quarter on a pair of free throws by Hannah Jones. At the two-minute mark, Fullerton took over the quarter going on a 6-0 run to give them a 28-21 lead going into halftime.

The third and fourth quarters belonged to the Hornets as they continued to force the Dons into submission. By 6:37, Fullerton widened their lead 38-23 on a short jumper by Shenise West. FC did not let up in the fourth taking their biggest lead (19 points) at the end of the game on a lay-in by Lyneya Turner.

Fullerton owned the key out-scoring Santa Ana 36-14 in the paint. FC also shot 38.5% from the floor to SAC's 26.1%.

Shenise West played her best game, thus far, as a Hornet scoring 14 points with 13 rebounds for her second double-double. Tristian Johns was also hot scoring 14 points with 7 rebounds. Moriah Serrano dropped in 12 points with 5 assists and 6 boards. Hannah Jones scored 9 points, had 5 steals, and 5 rebounds.

Up Next: Fullerton (9-8 overall, 1-2 OEC) will play another conference game this Friday, January 18th at Saddleback College. Tip off is at 7:00 pm.
