WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: NOT ENOUGH GAS

Fullerton tried to make it 6 wins in a row on Friday but did not have enough gas in the tank losing at Riverside City College 67-62.

The Hornet (5-3 OEC) loss gives RCC (6-2 OEC) the season sweep. The Tigers handed the FC a 63-52 loss in the conference opener back on January 9th. The loss also hurts Fullerton breaking up the third place tie and sending them to fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference.

Both teams matched one another in shots during the opening minutes of the game with the Tigers leading 8-7, but in the final 3 minutes of the quarter RCC took off on an 8-2 taking a 16-9 lead going into the second quarter.

It did not go so well for the Hornets in the second as Riverside continued to dominate going up 21-10 at just under 7 minutes. The Hornets found themselves licking their wounds heading into the half down 35-19.

Fullerton finally woke up in the fourth quarter getting within 7 points of the Tigers at 7:28. With 36 seconds left in the game Moriah Serrano's three-pointer brought FC within 4 at 63-59, but that was as close as they could get as Riverside proved to be too much down the stretch.

Shooting was the Achilles Heel for Fullerton as they were 38.2% from the floor and only 5-11 from the line.

Serrano had another solid outing for the Hornets scoring a game-high 20 points. Tristian Johns chipped in with 18 points, and Hannah Jones put up 9.

Up Next: FC (13-9 overall, 5-3 OEC) will be back home on Wednesday, February 6th against first-place Irvine Valley College (ranked No. 14 in state). Game time is at 7:00 pm.
