WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: FLEXING SOME HORNET MUSCLE

The FC women's basketball team did it again Thursday night… shocked first place Cypress College 82-76.

Nobody expected the Hornets to beat the Chargers for a second time this season, but they did it... and on the road too. Fullerton has not completed a two-game season sweep of the Chargers since the 2010-11 season under Hall of Fame head coach Debi Woelke.

Prior to the game, Cypress was sitting all alone in first place in the Orange Empire Conference but now must share it with Irvine Valley College at 10-2. Fullerton is in fourth place in the OEC standings with a record of 8-4.

The game was a slug-fest from beginning to end that featured an astounding 15 ties and 16 lead changes.

Down 72-73 with 2:49 left in the game, the Hornets Hannah Jones punched in a clutch three-pointer putting FC up 75-73. Tristian Johns helped widen the gap hitting a jump shot to give Fullerton a 79-75 edge with a minute left. The Chargers added one more point on a free throw by Christa Evans, but the Hornets held strong shocking the Cypress for the second time this season.

Hannah Jones served up her best night as a Hornet scoring a game-high 29 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Moriah Serrano put up 15 points and Tristian Johns 14 with 6 rebounds. Lyneya Turner was huge off the bench scoring 11 points, had 5 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots.

Up Next: Fullerton (16-10 overall, 8-4 OEC) will be back in the Hornets Nest on Wednesday, February 20th when they host Copper Mountain College. Game time is at 7:00 pm.
