Coach Winek did not have to travel too far to get to Fullerton College, as he spent his successful coaching career at Valencia High School in Placentia (1975-2013).

Winek established the Tiger boy's golf program in 1986, founded the first all-girls golf team in 1995, and as a member of the CIF Golf Advisory helped establish CIF girl's golf in 1998.

A former president of the SCHSGA, Winek's teams won a CIF record of 48 consecutive dual match victories, 12 league championships, and coached both CIF team and individual championships. When it was all said and done, Coach Winek ended his career at Valencia with an incredible 82% total winning percentage.

Winek has been voted the CIF Coach of the Year, and also has been a two-time LA Times Coach of the Year, a OC Register Coach of the Year, and a twelve-time League Coach of the Year.

A former Hornet and Titan, Winek earned a B.A., a B.S. and a M.S. from Cal State Fullerton. He was a member of the Titan baseball team.

In his five years at Fullerton College, Coach Winek's teams have participated in 4 state playoffs with Kaylee Jeon winning the state individual championship in 2018.   

Winek lives in Placentia with his wife of 35 years and they have a son, Errick, who earned an A.A. from Fullerton College and then transferred to USC where he earned his B.A. in Political Science. He finished his education at Chapman School of Law. He is now a successful attorney in the Inland Empire.
