W. TRACK & FIELD: 10K OEC CHAMP

Fullerton College hosted the 2014 OEC Track and Field Championships this past Friday with positive reults.

The overcast weather made for perfect conditions for the athletes to compete as the day consisted of the following field events as finals with all men and women in the Hammer, Shot Put, Long jump, and Pole Vault). The 3K Steeplechase and 10K were final track events.

Hornet runner Daisy Esparza had a big day winning the 10K with a time of 38:16.10 while teammate Maegan Garritson finished sixth out of eight runners in 40:16.25.  Daisy and Maegan scored 13 points for the Hornets.

Vanessa Franco competed in the Long Jump and finished in eighth place with a jump of 15 feet 11.50 inches.

Jasmine Chatman did not qualify for the final round and jumped 14 feet 7.25 inches.  

Continuing on with the track events, Tia Streeter qualified for the final round in the 800M and Vanessa Franco in the 400M Hurdles.

Jael Jones ran the 100M Hurdles and missed qualifying by one spot running 18.79.

Mia Wells threw the Hammer 80 feet 7 inches and close to her PR in the Shot Put with a toss of 30 feet 11.75 inches.

Up Next: This Friday, April 25th, FC will host the OEC Championships. Field events start at 8:30 am and track events at 2:00 pm.
