WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: THE OEC PRELIMS
The Orange Empire Conference Championship Prelims were held last Friday at Riverside City College with many Hornets qualifying for the finals.
There were qualifying rounds in the short sprints to cut the field down to the top eight competitors for the championships the following Friday. Jordyn Reese and Liz Pean qualified in the 100-meter dash. Reese will be racing in the 200-meters as well.
The field events were competed as finals only and this weekend was the shot put, javelin and long jump events. The top eight places will score for the team and top six will advance to SoCal Regionals.
Kailani Talag qualified for the SoCal Regionals and in the shot put and javelin finishing in sixth and fourth place respectively. Marianne Gourd was eighth in the shot put. Yessenia Gutierrez finished in eighth place with the javelin adding to the team overall points. Daniela Juarez received all six jumps in the long jump for ninth place finish. Shyleen Ramos had jumped short with her distance to qualify for the finals in her long jump event. Daniela and Shyleen will be part of the relays squad for next week.
Up Next: The OEC Championships at Riverside City College. The field events start at 11:00 am and track events at 3:00 pm.
