WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: OCCIDENTAL CARNIVAL

The Lady Hornets were competing under sunny weather conditions at the Occidental College's Distance Carnival this past weekend.

This week, the weather was in FC's favor compared to their last couple of meets in stormy conditions.

Myrna Gillas had a good day winning the high jump easy with 5'1" and giving herself a personal record (PR) in the long jump with 17'6.25". Her long jump effort has given her the "A" standard qualifying mark for the state championships. Gillas is currently holding down sixth place in SoCal rankings.

Gillas helped her other teammates Sam Starkey, Liz Walaise, and Alicia Victoria run their best 4X400M relay time of the season of 4:17.92. The team is ranked third in conference with that time.

Alicia Victoria ran the 400M race in 1:03.30 working on her quarter speed with her hurdles.  Rebeca Perez had a good meet running her middle distance events with 2:36.14 800M. She ran in a faster heat with the 1500M and gave herself a PR in the 1500M with 5:19.15.

"I felt good in my race. I know what I need to do for the next race", replied Perez.

It was a positive weekend as the throwers grinded working on certain elements with their technique. There was not much in big improvements this week, however Kim Mataia threw her best in the discus at 106'2" and Alexis Kotey had a toss of 102'6". Angellee Vernon gave herself a 12-foot further throw in the hammer 108'7".
